The Company was founded way back in 1951 when a band of very enthusiastic amateurs in singing and acting got together to discuss the possibility of forming a new Society to promote the Arts in Rosyth. This they did most successfully. As the majority of this band were employed in Rosyth Dockyard, the new society, once formed, was named Rosyth Dockyard Operatic Society, and was affiliated to the National Operatic and Dramatic Association whose headquarters are based in London.
Over the years members have come and gone and in 1987, due to the influx of members joining from outwith the Dockyard, the name of the group changed to Rosyth & District Musical Society.
